Caldwell JAM
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this program has been suspended for the 2020-2021 school year.
Caldwell JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) is a school-year program that offers classes for school students from 8 to 17 years of age. Held after school for approximately one hour a week, they learn old-time music in the traditional Appalachian style of singing and playing by ear. Instrument choices are old-time guitar, fiddle, mandolin and banjo.
Weekly Summer JAM classes typically last 10 weeks, and are held at The HUB in Hudson. School-year classes typically begin in early October. Classes are not held on school holidays, ice/snow or early release days. The school-year schedule is as follows:
- Mondays - immediately after school @ Granite Falls Elementary School: beginner guitar only
- Tuesdays - immediately after school @ Happy Valley K-8 School: beginner guitar only
- Wednesdays - immediately after school @ HUB Station Arts Center:
- Beginner fiddle @ 3:00pm
- Beginner & Intermediate banjo @ 3:30pm
- Intermediate guitar @ 3:30pm
- Beginner guitar & all mandolin @ 4pm
- Intermediate fiddle @ 3:45pm
- Thursdays - immediately after school @ Collettsville K-8 School after school: beginner guitar only
