SIGNAGE - NEW THIS YEAR - Please email your sculpture titles, medium and selling price to info@caldwellarts.com prior to September 2nd so we can prepare printed signage in advance. Last-minute registrations will receive hand-written signage.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Friday, September 9:

10a-7p -      Park opens for pre-registered sculptors, on-site registration, site selection & setup; crane available for unloading large sculptures (this needs to be pre-arranged so please use early registration)

7pm -           Sculptors Welcome Dinner* (includes beef lasagna, veggie lasagna, 

8pm -           Introductions, Judge's presentation

Saturday, September 10:

7-8:45am -   Park opens for on-site registration, site selection & set-up. Only small trucks allowed in park & must be removed by 8:45am; Continental breakfast available free for sculptors

9a -             Exhibition opens; judging begins for awards

10a-3p -      Live Music in the park; food vendors include a TacoRelliendo, Smokin' Hogs BBQ, Blue Moose Coffee drinks, L.E.S.S. veggie quesadillas, Essie's Pops (healthy popsicles)

3:15 -           All sculptors come to the awards presentation area (main deck)

3:30 -           Awards presentation, followed by Judge's walking tour/talk about winning sculptures

4pm -           Exhibition closes; begin to remove sculptures from the park

 

 

JUDGE ELIZABETH "LEE" KELLEY
Elizabeth ("Lee") Kelley is a curator of fine art collection development and management for the Chicago Transit Authority. She works directly with artists in the purchase or commission of site-specific artwork for public spaces, transit facilities and private collections. Since 2007, Elizabeth has served as art administrator to the Chicago Transit Authority, commissioning original artwork for permanent display in transit facilities throughout the city. From 1998 to 2012, she served as curator and director of the City of Chicago Public Art Program and Collection. She is a member of the curatorial committee of Millennium Park-Chicago and vice-president of the advisory board of Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park in University Park, Illinois. Elizabeth holds a PhD in Art History with specialties in Modern and Contemporary art and ancient Greek and Roman art. She earned a post-graduate certificate in Post-War and Contemporary Art from Sotheby’s Educational Institute in London.

Provided free for pre-registered sculptors who pre-request it - Available Friday only for offloading and Saturday afternoon for loading up

Only small trucks allowed in the park 7-8:30a.m. Saturday for unloading.

*SCULPTORS WELCOME DINNER:
Friday, September 9th at 7pm at the TH Broyhill Walking Park

Sculptors, Judge Elizabeth "Lee" Kelley, sponsors and guests gather for a casual buffet dinner and live music, followed by the Judge's presentation. Talk about your work, meet our sponsors, and make friends in this party-like atmosphere. This event is included free with your registration; additional guests meals are $20/person in advance or $25/person on site. Dinner includes meat and vegetarian options (this year we'll have regular Beef Lasagna, Verde Lasagna (a wonderful concoction including asparagus & spinach & ricotta), and Sweet Potato-Buffalo Chicken Casserole (paleo & gluten friendly), salad, bread, sweet/unsweet tea, beer, wine and a variety of desserts.


In case of rain, the Sculptors Welcome Dinner may be moved to the nearby Mulberry Recreation Center (720 Mulberry St SW, Lenoir), but the Sculpture Celebration on Saturday goes on rain or shine in the TH Broyhill Walking Park.

 

SEPTEMBER EXHIBIT AT THE CALDWELL ARTS COUNCIL
The "Sculpt Mettle: Redux" exhibit features a retrospective of sculpture and other artwork by one of the founders of Sculpture Celebration, Dr. Gaston Henry Michaux in our downstairs galleries. Upstairs gallery includes works by Jane Wells Harrison, Bob Ebendorf, and others "Thinking Inside The Box". The Caldwell Arts Council is about one mile from the park, and we hope you'll come see this exhibit Friday 9-5 or Saturday 10-2!
