Members of the community who don't have their own pottery can purchase a piece of raku pottery (vases, luminaries, flower pots) or raku bisque (frog, turtle, lizard, garden gnome, Green Man, rooster, butterfly, dog, sun, moon, etc.) to dip glaze or brush-on glaze and have raku fired within an hour on site. Pre-registration is preferred due to limited kiln space, but not required. Adults and children (with adult supervision) are welcome. Outlaw Pottery offers 10 raku pottery glazes, including metallics and white crackle, as well as the horse hair raku process. Raku is a 16th century Japanese firing process that became popular in the United States in the 1970’s. It is created with a unique hour-long firing process that uses both fire and smoke to create unique patterns and designs. It is the post fire reduction stage that creates the unique look of raku pottery, including dazzling metallics and dramatic crackles.
